Which size should I choose?
We recommend selecting your usual shoe size. Our footwear may feel tight at first, but will stretch about half a size after a few days of wear. If you're between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size and adding a sheepskin insole for extra comfort.
My toe is touching the front
It's perfectly normal for your toe to gently touch the front of the shoe, which we recommend during the first fitting. Since the leather stretches about half a size after wearing, starting with a size that's a bit tighter is ideal. However, it should never be uncomfortable!
We recommend wearing your shoes in a clean environment for a few hours – ideally in the morning when your feet are less swollen – to get a feel for the fit and comfort.
Where can I try on a pair of ROF’s?
You can try on our footwear at our warehouse in Putten (NL), showroom in Riebeek Kasteel (SA), or at the Oranjezicht City Farm in Cape Town. You can also visit one of our retailers located worldwide. Find locations here.
Are ROF’s suitable if I wear insoles?
Our ROF insoles are not removable but our soles are flat, so you can place your own insole over the existing one.
What if my size is not in stock?
We try to keep every size in stock, but if yours is unavailable, we will do our best to have it ready for you within 3 weeks. If this happens, we will keep you updated via email. We’re committed to sustainability, which means we avoid overproduction and only make what’s needed to reduce waste.
Can I personalise my shoes?
Add a personal touch to your ROF footwear by stamping up to 5 letters or numbers on each lower strap. Whether it's initials, a nickname or a meaningful quote, make your shoes truly one-of-a-kind and let them tell your story.
How can I speed up the break-in process?
To speed up the break-in process, wear your ROF shoes as much as possible. Here are a few tips to help you:
- Wear them for short periods around the house on a clean surface.
- Keep the top buckles open during the first few days.
- Wear them with thick socks or without socks – the warmth will help soften the leather.
The more you wear them, the faster they'll mould to your feet, becoming the most comfortable pair of shoes you own!
Where can I buy ROF boots?
ROF boots are available worldwide via our shop.
Only a certain amount of ROF’s are made each month, so you won’t find us in big retail stores. However, we find it very important to give our (international) customers the opportunity to fit and feel the boots. That’s why we hand selected the below retailers for you to experience ROF-Style

Where are ROF’s made?
ROF-Style footwear is handmade in South Africa where we have a team of skilled craftsmen. Each shoe is carefully checked and packed by us in South Africa and by our team in the Netherlands before they are sent all over the world.
How long does it take to make one pair of ROF boots?
It takes roughly 2 weeks to make a pair of ROF shoes, depending on factors like the sun for drying. Each pair of shoes is carefully made by hand.

Are ROF’s suitable for all seasons?
Yes! Our shoes are made from vegetable-tanned leather (inside and out) with a leather insole, making them breathable and comfortable for all seasons. We wear them without socks all summer long! The tannins in the leather help regulate the ecosystem inside the shoe, preventing foot odour even after long hours of wear and physical activity.
However, keep in mind that leather and water aren't the best combination, so it’s best to keep them dry and treat them with waterproof spray if you’re expecting rain.

What kind of leather do we use?
Our boots are made from vegetable-tanned leather, using a natural tanning process with organic materials and plant-based tannins. This method keeps the leather strong, breathable and full of character, aging beautifully over time.
Because our leather comes from free-range cows, you might notice small scars or tick bites - marks of a life spent moving through the bush. Unlike factory-farmed hides, this leather tells a real story.

Where do we source all the materials?
We do our best to source all our materials right here in South Africa. It’s not always easy, but we’re committed to keeping things local - supporting skilled craftsmen and using materials that reflect the land we call home.
How soft will the boots become?
At first, the leather might feel stiff - that’s because we don’t use any chemicals to artificially soften it like chrome-tanned leather. But don’t worry, after just a day of wearing them, you’ll start to feel the difference. The shoes mould to your feet over time, becoming softer, more comfortable and uniquely yours.

Are ROF’s suitable for small feet/high arches/Hallux Valgus?
Our footwear is designed to suit most feet, thanks to their wide toe box and adjustable straps. They mould to your foot over time, making them a great option for high arches and Hallux Valgus. In fact, our founder struggled for years to find comfortable footwear that didn’t hurt her bunion. This is one of the reasons she started ROF. Because of their natural fit and adaptability, our shoes are even recommended by some orthopedists. If you have smaller feet, adding an insole can help create a tighter fit.
Do we do vegan leather?
Although we are intigued by the possibilities of using leather alternatives, we don’t offer vegan leather shoes because most vegan materials don’t meet our standards for quality and longevity. Many contain plastic-based materials like PVC and PU, which are harmful to produce. Our vegetable-tanned leather is tanned using tree bark and natural tannins, making it the most organic and eco-friendly tanning method. Ultimately, we believe in buying less, choosing well and wearing longer - shoes that age beautifully and can be passed on.

The boots make a soft crackling sound when I walk - is this normal?
Yes! The soft crackling sound is completely normal for vegetable-tanned leather and will fade over time as the boots break in. If you'd like to speed up the process, try this quick fix:
- Apply a little baby powder or cornstarch to the straps and inside of the boots.
- Spread it evenly, and the sound will fade.
Are ROF boots heavy?
Not at all! While they might have the look of a sturdy work boot (think steel toes and heavy soles), ROF shoes are built to last without the extra weight. You might be surprised to know that a women’s size 38 Tankwa Boot weighs just 555g per shoe, making them lighter than Dr. Martens.
Are the boots waterproof?
While ROF footwear will never be 100% waterproof, our waterproof spray can offer extra protection on rainy days. We recommend using it when you’re expecting wet weather.
During the first three weeks, try to keep your shoes dry as the leather moulds to your foot. Getting them wet during this time may affect their shape. After the initial period, if they do get wet, simply let them dry naturally and treat with leather food to keep them in top shape.
Do you offer repair services?

Can I return personalised boots?
Because each pair of personalised shoes is custom-made just for you, we’re unable to accept returns on these items. We recommend double-checking your size and design choices before placing your order, and if you're unsure, feel free to reach out to us before ordering.
What are the delivery cost to my country?
Shipping is free for orders within the Benelux and South Africa. For international orders, shipping costs will be automatically calculated at checkout. After placing your order, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details, and once your order is shipped, you’ll get an email with your tracking code.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, we offer payment plans for South African customers through PayJustNow, allowing you to pay in 3 interest-free instalments. We also offer Klarna as a payment option, giving you more flexibility in how you pay.

What warranty do you offer?
If your ROF shoes are damaged, please contact us at info@rof-style.com as soon as you notice the issue. If possible, include pictures of the damage. We’ll assess the situation and determine if it qualifies for our warranty.
Do you offer discounts?
At ROF-Style, we focus on creating evergreen, high-quality shoes that are worth their price year-round. We don’t offer sales or discounts, but we do host sample sales once or twice a year. These shoes may have minor imperfections, like scars or wrinkles in the leather, but we believe they deserve a good home. After all, it’s a handmade, natural product!
What is your return policy?
For returns or exchanges, please email returns@rof-style.com with your request. We’ll provide you with the return form and further instructions.
We accept returns and exchanges within 7 days from the day your package is delivered. The return shipping cost is your responsibility. Items must be in their original condition, with all accessories and packaging included. Please avoid taping the original box: use a bag or paper to protect it during return shipping.
A handling fee of R100 / EUR 5 will be deducted from your refund to cover packaging and handling costs. Once we receive your return, we will inspect the product and process your refund within 7 days if everything is in order.
